I used to be one of those people who thought I should be able to get all the nutrients I needed through the foods I ate. I wanted to have a balanced enough diet that I got the proper levels of every vitamin and mineral on a daily basis. But when I started having heart irregularities, I wanted to know why.

I remember having a heart murmur when I was a kid and over the past several years, I started noticing this weird feeling in my chest and throat. It felt like my heart would miss a beat and then overreact to compensate by beating really hard and fast for a few seconds. It caused me a lot of anxiety because it felt like my heart was not working right.

I finally went to a doctor and got a test done to check the electrical currents of my heart. When I got the results back, I was reassured that it wasn’t all in my head. Apparently, one of my valves was not fully opening and closing at the right times. This was causing an irregular pulse and a lack of oxygenated blood circulating through my system.
